Andrew Alff is a Certified Texas Geoscientist based in Central Texas, bringing over 45 years of experience supporting independent Oil and Gas Operators with his expertise. Andrew has been on hundreds of drilled oil and gas wells working in the capacity of everything from mud logger to chief geologist. He has witnessed well kicks, blowouts and even two rig fires. He has been on wells that utilized wild well control companies to bring the wells back under control.

Andrew has previously worked for and now works closely with companies that deal with regulatory compliance. He has an excellent understanding of the rules and regulations set forth by the Texas Railroad Commission for Oil and Gas Operators. With his experience, knowledge, and network connections, he can assist operators to bring their oil and gas operations into compliance.

Previous experience includes mapping complex salt domes in the Gulf of Mexico and working for a company in oil and gas exploration in the Dominican Republic. But the bulk of his experience is in mapping and exploration in the State of Texas from Abilene to the Mexican border and from Fort Stockton to Galveston. He has chosen the well sites for hundreds of successful oil and gas wells. He has experience working closely with geophysicists, when needed to optimize well  locations for successful wells. He has designed and executed drilling of horizontal wells to maximize well production.

Working as a mud logger to start his career in geology allowed him to learn from the “ground up” and gave him the understanding he has today of what it takes to have a successful productive well. He has worked with a large consulting company mapping offshore gulf coast Texas and Louisiana with maps that were utilized by companies such as Exxon and British Petroleum in their exploration efforts.

Understanding the importance of completions, he has worked closely with petroleum engineers and completion experts assisting in maximizing the potential for the well’s oil and gas production. Utilizing all information that is available to choose the best perforations, and stimulation options while working within budget constraints.

Geologic CONSULTING AND EXPERTISE:

Regulatory Guidance with expertise in Abeyance letters

Specializing in working with operators who have wells that have sat idle over two years, I write abeyance letters as a Certified Texas Geoscientist. The abeyance letters when accompanied by a W3X can allow companies to keep their wells in their inventory for future use as producing wells, injection wells and disposal wells. Having written hundreds of letters since the regulations were first introduced, my experience is extensive, and I understand the requirements thoroughly.

Support operators in staying within regulatory guidelines set forth by the Texas Railroad Commission in their daily operations. I have an extensive understanding of the rules and regulations, having operated oil and gas wells in the past as an operator. I have many contacts in the industry that can help operators with the most complex situations they find themselves involved.

Andrew’s consulting services include:

Geologic Mapping

Utilizing all data available including well logs, drilling data, and seismic to construct detailed subsurface mapping to identify faulting and structure to optimize well locations and thus maximize production of oil and gas.

Geological Research & Analysis

Provide custom studies tailored to project-specific needs, from land acquisition to land development for optimizing production.

Well Site Selection

Site-specific recommendations for well placement based on certain conditions, well yield potential, and long-term sustainability.

Well Evaluation

Utilize available data to give a honest opinion on the success or failure of a drilled oil or gas well.

Regulatory Guidance

Support in navigating Texas regulations and ensuring compliance with local, state, and environmental standards.

Over the years, Andrew has developed a reputation for delivering practical, scientifically grounded insights to clients in agriculture, real estate development, energy, and public infrastructure. Whether it's evaluating a property for groundwater potential or creating custom geologic maps, Andrew Alff is a trusted partner in unlocking the value beneath the surface.
